(New York-WABC, July 1, 2004) — If you are one of the hundreds of thousands of commuters who use Penn[sylvania] Station, be prepared for a serious inconvenience the week of the Republican Convention.
For security reasons, six of the eight exits will be closed -- causing major pedestrian back ups.
[. . .]
This means all commuters will have to enter and exit through the Seventh Avenue side under the [Madison Square] Garden marquee, or the Long Island Railroad entrance on 34th Street.
Thousands of Amtrak, New Jersey Transit, LIRR and subway riders -- bottlenecked through two exits.
Jim McGovern, LIRR [Long Island Rail Road] Commuters Council: "People are going to have to behave themselves. It's going to be hot, it's going to be crowded. Other than that I think people are just going to have to suck it up."
Thanks a lot. As if it's not hard enough for the Mrs. to get to work with the normal crowds. And you know the only reason the Republican Convention is in NYC is so they can exploit Ground Zero. We sure as hell don't want 'em here. Motherfuckers.
Off to the mines. Friday-Friday-Fri-day!
