An entirely new argument against gun control
The Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands appears to have run afoul of the law of unintended consequences with its gun amnesty and confiscation program. The gun confiscations have succeeded to a great extent in calming the violence in the Solomons, but they have also led to an increase in crocodile-related deaths because the islanders no longer have weapons to shoot the man-eating crocs. At the moment, RAMSI and the Solomons government are considering whether to give back some of the guns or institute a crocodile control program.
It would be funny if it weren't so serious.
